Emergency and escape-route lighting

If your premises has employees or the public inside, emergency lighting is part of your fire safety obligations: when the power fails, escape routes, exits and open areas must stay lit long enough for everyone to get out safely. The recognised code of practice is BS 5266, which guides where fittings go and how long they must keep working.

We install both maintained fittings, which run as normal lights and stay on in a power cut, and non-maintained fittings that only come on when the supply fails. We also test existing systems, replace tired batteries and fittings, and record the results so your logbook stands up to inspection.

Good schemes layer three kinds of light: ambient light for the room as a whole, task light where you cook, read or work, and accent light for the features worth showing off. A kitchen wants bright, cooler light over the worktops; a living room wants warmer tones and dimming for the evening.
